Here is some interesting anecdotal evidence of how many are using exercise/movement to treat pain, including chronic pain that many had struggled with for years. This certainly seems like something to be at least investigated further if not just tried.

Yoga Benefits All Age Groups
As this article from HealthKey points out, yoga is an excellent tool
for fitness, stress relief and rehab for all ages, from babies to grandparents.
Yoga also can enhance your current workout program and performance
for those who like to run, swim, strength train, etc. with improved flexibility,
balance and strength.
Personally, I began a moderate yoga session the first of the year (20-30 minutes), three times a week most weeks
and it has had a very positive impact on my running performance. I recently completed the
half marathon portion of the Kansas City Marathon, the longest distance I have run in a long time.
It wasn’t just the race though where I benefitted, but also the long training runs, both during the
runs and recovery periods.
